Press Release New Fishing Book Says Ottawa River is One of the Best A world-renowned expert has identified the Ottawa River as one of North America's best fishing destinations. The book, "Spectacular Fishing: Ken Schultz's Guide to the Best Freshwater and Saltwater Sites in North America", includes the Ottawa River in its 84 choices of prime fishing spots. "This just confirms what we've known for all these years," says Marilyn Alexander, chair of the Ottawa Valley Tourist Association (OVTA). "We've got this great resource, right here in our own backyard, and books like this will help us promote it and build on it." OVTA staff met the author at the Canada Media Marketplace in New York a couple of years ago and have maintained contact with him ever since. "This is a great example of the benefits we can gain from attending events like media marketplaces," says Alexander. "It's taken a lot of hard work and commitment, but it pays off." The lavishly-illustrated 224-page coffee-table book produced by Schultz highlights premier North American destinations that offer first-rate angling adventures. The section on the Ottawa River includes a photo of an angler with a muskie from the Lower Ottawa, and a scenic picture of a fisherman heading out in his boat on a fall morning. The text notes that the lower Ottawa River has "some of the best muskie fishing in North America". "Upriver, the foremost draw for anglers is walleye, and there is no better time for fast action than when the provincial season opener occurs on the second Saturday in May," Schultz points out. The book includes a map of the area and detailed information about getting to the region, prime fishing times, accommodations, and guide and equipment availability. The OVTA is included as a source for further information. "This is an excellent promotion for our area," says Judy Hugli, OVTA tourism marketing coordinator. "Fishing is a sport that's growing in popularity, and this book is being marketed throughout North America. It really puts us in the limelight." The book is a companion to Schultz's previous book, "North American Fishing", published in 2001, which the New York Daily Herald called an "ideal reference for the 50 million anglers in the United States." Schultz also wrote the multi-award-winning "Ken Schultz's Fishing Encyclopedia and Worldwide Angling Guide", and has been an editor and staff writer for Field & Stream magazine for over three decades. His current book will take its description of the Ottawa Valley into bookstores throughout North America, and from there into the hands of thousands of avid fishermen. The hard-cover, high-quality book came onto the market on April 1 and sells for $39.95 American. (For more information, contact Judy Hugli, tourism marketing coordinator, OVTA, 732-4364.) |
