Tourism Project Moves Forward

The Ottawa Valley Tourist Association is moving forward with the Cultural Heritage Tourism Corridor Project.

This summer, the Province of Ontario accepted the OVTA’s proposal to promote the Ottawa Valley as a whole linked by Historical Waterways. The project will respond to the demand for distinct culture and heritage-related experiences for tourists. The goal is to establish a “corridor” that highlights local sites of international interest, places that demonstrate authentic Ottawa Valley traditions or customs that are historically relevant.

To facilitate this endeavor, the OVTA is pleased to announce the appointment of Special Project Coordinator, Marie White. Marie will be working with over 30 partners in the development of the Corridor project. Marie has a proven track record in the not-for-profit sector, having contributed to cultural policy and projects for the City of Kitchener, Ontario (a highly progressive municipality with respect to arts & culture), and provincially as a coordinator with the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg Ontario, (internationally renowned for its all-Canadian collection featuring the Group of Seven). This career sprouted from specializations in Cultural Management and Art History from the University of Waterloo.

Most recently, Marie was the coordinator for Spring Fling, a valley arts festival that drew over 5000 in attendance.

Partners of the Cultural Heritage Tourism Corridor Project, consisting of not-for profit, public and private sector organizations, will be invited to participate in a series of workshops. Topics include Market Readiness, Packaging & Promotion, Media Relations, Marketing, Strategic Planning and Project Management. Facilitators will highlight the benefits of culture and heritage as an exportable commodity, the demand for culture, new product development, networking and long term planning.

Those interested should contact the Ottawa Valley Tourist Association and ask for Marie White at 613-732- 4364.
