Eco Friendly Accommodations

Several accommodations in the Ottawa Valley are very conscious of the footprint that is left on the environment. Sustainability, energy conservation, organic gardens and wild life conservation are practiced. Red Wolf Retreat (www.redwolfretreat.ca) near Eganville offers cabins that are solar powered, wood-heated and have gravity–fed water systems. They also offer yurts, a modern adaptation of the ancient shelter used by Central Asian nomads for centuries. The compact shape of the yurt and combination of lightweight members in tension and compression mean that the structure is highly efficient in maximizing strength while minimizing the use of materials. Oiseau Bay Eco Landing (www.oiseaubayresort.com) promotes itself as focusing on the quality of the visit instead of the quantity of visitors. Many other accommodations in the Ottawa Valley also incorporate environmentally friendly practices into their business
