A Four-Season Resort Reflects Mining History

CALABOGIE: What a difference six months makes!!  Calabogie Peaks Resort has evolved from a busy winter ski business into Eastern Ontario’s only REAL four-season resort experience.

Dickson Manor, the Peaks' new 25-room country-inn, has given new heart to the resort.  Now, in addition to the plethora of excellent outdoor recreation, guests can indulge in a number of indoor activities too. Les Saisons Spa, Canthooks Restaurant, an indoor swimming pool, outdoor hot tub, arcade room, fitness room and a mini-movie theatre can make your stay enjoyable – indoors or outdoors.

Stunning architecture and landscaping throughout the grounds reflect the strong logging and mining history of the Calabogie area. These wood and stone themes continue throughout the inn and are showcased in the two-way fireplace located in the Canthooks Restaurant.

The history of Calabogie and area has played a large role in creating the identities for some of the new businesses throughout the resort.  Dickson Manor is named after the mountain range (Dickson Mountain) it is located next to. The fine-dining restaurant, Canthooks, located in the Manor, has a strong logging theme. The menus and décor showcase archival photos of loggers and the Madawaska River.  A “canthook” is a long pointed tool used to roll large, heavy logs.

Another food outlet at the Peaks has received a new identity. Black Donald’s, is the upstairs pub in the main ski lodge.  Its logo was designed to create intrigue and wonder, as the once famous Black Donald graphite mines are now underwater and are a scuba diver's delight. The staff at Black Donald’s invite guests to discover and explore the legends of the Black Donald’s mine as they kick off their boots, enjoy some pub fare and wind down after a day in the great outdoors.

Conferences and weddings are very popular at Dickson Manor. Guests have commented that it is wonderful to find a location that has everything required for the special day. Everything from beautiful and often unique locations for the ceremony, photography sites, the reception, wonderful wedding menus, dancing, and accommodation.  More to offer you and your guests, Les Saisons spa and a huge variety of recreational facilities will round out your experience. Even the rock star, Prince, stayed at Dickson Manor this winter, while he attended his sister-in-law's wedding.
