Madawaska Studio Tour

The Madawaska Studio Tour [Sept. 30-Oct.1, 2006] is the perfect way to experience this area. It combines history, the arts, local culture, and the best displays of fall foliage in Eastern Ontario. The Opeongo Road runs up the middle of the tour area allowing access to studios and other Valley attractions.

Photographers will not want to miss the breathtaking lookouts near Foymount, Wilno and Purdy, and the riotous rapids and natural caves at the Fourth Chute on the Bonnechere. Side trips to the scenic riverside village of Eganville and Combermere’s Crooked Slide Park are also popular photo ops. History buffs can experience what are said to be the largest number of intact and inhabited pioneer log dwellings in Canada.  Local history is preserved in the numerous Museums and restored buildings. The Opeongo Stopping Place Museum, Bonnechere Museum, Wilno Heritage Park, and Barry’s Bay Railway Station/ Art Centre are but a few. The stone fences that intersect the road may hold fewer crops than in the past, but a harvest of artistic inspiration is evident in the plethora of artists and craftspeople along “The Opeongo Line”. Soap makers, potters, blacksmiths, toy makers, painters, weavers, glassblowers and more now call the Opeongo Road area home. www.madawaskastudiotour.com
