Ordovician Fossil Capital of Canada

Congratulations to Eganville who was recently named the Ordovician Fossil Capital of Canada! The Bonnechere Museum www.bonnecherevalleytwp.com, in collaboration with the Bonnechere Caves www.bonnecherecaves.com, Stew Jack and the Felhaber Quarry, recently registered the name "Ordovician Fossil Capital of Canada" for its use in promoting geology in the Eganville area, as well as their increasingly popular fossil hunts..

Already in the fourth year of operation, the Bonnechere Museum and its partners have been holding 4 fossil hunts a year, which consist of a presentation at the museum, a walk around Eganville to see the places where fossils are present, followed by a trip to the Felhaber Quarry where participants can “rock hound” for fossils. Participants can keep their fossils by paying for them by the pound with funding going to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Fossil hunts are planned for July 1, 19, August 16 and September 27.
