Rural Retail Therapy

Leave the impersonal, massive and crowded malls behind. Come slow life down and experience the quaint galleries, colourful gift stores and unique specialty shops found in the scenic countryside of the Ottawa Valley. Find hidden treasures as you visit the many shops in Barry’s Bay, gateway into Algonquin Park. The village of Wilno, home to Canada’s first Polish settlement is dotted with the homes and studios of artists and craftspeople. The historic town of Eganville with the Madawaska River flowing through it is a must visit for a shopping excursion. Named after Robbie Burns, the village of Burnstown was originally settled by loggers as a "Stopping Place" when the big virgin pine were floated down the Madawaska River on their way to Quebec City enroute to England. The village today boasts historical buildings that house art galleries, artist studios, a fine café, antique and gift shops. This is just a sampling of the many rural shopping opportunities found here.
