News about

  • SUPPER THEATRE IS BACK, with Upstream To Basin Depot
  • Barn Dance! in Ottawa and Rankin
  • Building a new home
  • Country woman of the year

SUPPER THEATRE IS BACK. You're invited to supper in Killaloe! Tickets are on sale for Upstream To Basin Depot by Barry Goldie and Lee LaFont. This new musical comedy takes place "back in the lumber" in the dying days of the square timber trade, and time of mighty men and strong women. It will bring back fond memories of days and people long gone and give a picture of the difficult conditions the pioneers faced. Supper, prepared by Shirley Yackobeck and the Killaloe Lions, is served at all regular performances - Friday and Saturday evenings at 6 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., September 29 - October 29, excluding Thanksgiving weekend. Book now for a great show, great eating, and great fun. (There will be preview performances without dinner, at reduced rates, on September 27 and 28.) Group rates are available.

The show will be a lot of fun, with great music, great actors, and four top players in the pit band. And it's a real community fundraiser. The Lions are doing the catering and all proceeds will go to pay for this year's hall renovations. And ten dollars of every ticket will be a donation toward the theatre building project, with charitable tax receipts available. So book now for best seats and a "tamarackin' good time."

Our travelling Barn Dance! show stops next in Ottawa November 3 and 4 at Lakeside Gardens (Britainnia Park) each night at 8 p.m. This is a popular dance hall. Come prepared to dance. The show features multi-fiddle champion Brian Hebert of Pembroke, the wonderful Carol Kennedy on keys, Ottawa Valley Hall of Famer Al Utronki on steel, fan favourite Ken Ramsden on doghouse bass, the golden voice of Lynn Davis, Stone Fence and show producer Ish Theilheimer on fiddle, Brian Downey on drums and the swing/step dancing of Jenna and Merissa Henry. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Then on November 18, Barn Dance! plays at the new Rankin Community Centre, where all tickets are $15.

Building a new home. As you know, Stone Fence Theatre is working to build a new home as part of a community-owned cultural centre at Hoch Farm Park in Killaloe. We are just beginning our funding campaign and we need lots of volunteers. If you can help, please get in touch with us.

Country woman of the year. Country Woman Magazine is holding an online election for Country Woman of the Year. We endorse the nomination of Muriel Verch of Rankin, Ontario! She is a super-community activist, including her tireless work to get the new community centre in Rankin built and for heritage radio. She also happens to be a big Stone Fence fan and mother of one of North America's top fiddlers - April Verch. So please case your vote for Muriel at http://www.countrywomanmagazine.com/2006/SO06/cw_wotyVoteX.asp .

Please do!

We look forward to seeing you "up the line!"
